Musing's on Ryan's last fully alive day

16 years ago today was Ryan Fox's last fully alive day. Here's everything I remember about January 6th, 2010.

I was still adjusting to being back home after spending over a week in Ontario, leaving Ryan alone in Calgary over Christmas. Him and Jason Book each had 2 Hungry Man dinners on Christmas Day. On January 6th, I must have needed the money, as I picked up an evening shift at the Unicorn, despite normally working days.

We likely slept in that day. There's a selfie of us (before selfie was a word) in the kitchen on my new camera. I would have hopped on the 24 bus to downtown around 3:15pm, getting off and walking 2 blocks to the Unicorn for my 4 oclock shift. I worked with Cyndi that night, and she cut me around 6:30 pm as it was  dead. What a waste of a night, what a waste of a shift. It must not have been as cold that night, as I decided to walk the 4 blocks to the liquor store on 11th ave to grab a 6 pack of lucky. I figured it would be a nice treat for us, as we were celebrating Ryan starting his new job the next day. 3 beers each can't hurt, right?

When I got home he was in the chair wearing his work boots and practicing his knots. He had a beard. I was happy for him. He was happy to see the 6 pack of lucky. We watched a show and went to bed around 10:45.

Just a rather uneventful, ordinary, last day alive.

We had spent the previous weeks looking for a job for him. His Ironwood bartending gig fell through, to his dismay. We were taking lots of photos of him in December as head shots, so I must have been trying to find him some unique acting jobs. He made a voice demo reel at one point, under the advice of Chris Bowen. After he died, Fedex called for an interview.

So long after the life and death of Ryan Fox, I still can't help but muse over those final days. How many people have died as pedestrians on these roads since Ryan's last alive day? About 100? 100 last days alive.

This week, Calgarians are trying to conserve water because a pipe burst and much was lost. Daily updates from the mayore and councillors are filling my social media feed. City of Calgary stuff always feels extra close to home because he unknowingly became a City of Calgary statistic.
